Wendy and I met about 2 years ago, when we first started studying at the Dawson Commercial Photography Program. When Wendy became pregnant and put out the word to her classmates about wanting maternity photos, I was happy to be the one she chose.
As a fellow photographer, Wendy had some concrete ideas about what she wanted. Actually, she planned for a session in-studio and one at her place with the family. However, life happens and we only had a chance to do the studio session. Her wee, precious one, Destiny, has just arrived in the world! The next session will truly be a full family session, with no one hiding in a belly!
Wendy came to the studio with inspiration photos in hand. Now this can be a bit scary to a photographer - clients who want photos re-created from Pinterest and other sources, that may not be unachievable given the lighting or the location or the time. This wasn't one of those times. Wendy came prepared with a few outfit changes, and some creative thought achieved the rest. Her desired looks seemed to come together with very little difficulty, and she was very patient as I and my assistant did our best to fulfill her wishes.
I think my favourite is the flowing sheet. Not only because I love the result, but because we had such fun doing it! Another fellow photographer and assistant for the session, Reagan Alexander, was just outside the frame, throwing the end of the sheet up as we counted down to shutter click. The sheet wasn't always cooperative, and the lights also started to do their own thing and not trigger consistently. Despite these little things (no shoot is ever perfect!) we embraced the situation and Wendy loves the photos. And that is the most important part. Here are some of the highlights of the session. And welcome, baby Destiny!
